What is Hytale?

Hytale is an upcoming sandbox game developed by Hypixel Studios that aims to unify creative freedom, advanced modding tools, and large-scale multiplayer experiences within a single platform.

At its foundation, Hytale is built around server-side modding and officially supported development tools. These systems are designed to empower creators to build, host, and share a wide variety of custom experiences. Much like platforms such as Roblox and Garry’s Mod, Hytale will allow players to explore community-driven servers featuring unique game modes, mechanics, and worlds. Hypixel Studios has also confirmed that creators will be able to monetize their content, though specific details regarding this system have yet to be publicly disclosed.

Alongside community-created content, Hytale will feature official servers intended to showcase the full capabilities of the engine. Many of these experiences are expected to resemble popular Minecraft-style minigame servers, an unsurprising direction given Hypixel Studios’ background and its close ties to the Hypixel Minecraft network.

For players seeking a more traditional experience, Hytale will include a fully featured open-world RPG mode. This mode supports both solo and cooperative play and combines survival mechanics with structured exploration and progression. It is often described as blending Minecraft’s sandbox survival gameplay with RPG elements reminiscent of titles such as Skyrim.

Hytale is planned as a multi-platform release with full cross-play support, including mobile devices. The game will also feature an integrated social system, enabling players to maintain a friends list and seamlessly join friends across different servers. An official in-game server browser will further streamline the discovery of new experiences, removing the need for third-party platforms.

Development updates are shared periodically through official blog posts on the Hytale website. At the time of writing, Hytale is scheduled for release on January 13, 2026.

All Hytale Gamemodes

Hytale is set to include three primary game modes at full release, with a fourth, temporary mode introduced through recent announcements. Not all modes will be available immediately. Adventure Mode
Adventure Mode is Hytale’s sandbox RPG experience, blending open-ended survival gameplay with a guided narrative. Players begin their journey in the world of Orbis, gathering resources, crafting tools, and building shelter before setting out to discover NPCs, dungeons, and powerful bosses that drive the story forward. This game mode is not yet available.

Exploration Mode
Exploration Mode offers a preview of Adventure Mode’s core systems, such as combat, looting, farming, building, and a randomly generated world. It functions as a temporary playtest while the remaining Adventure Mode features are completed. Because this version does not yet match the developers’ intended vision, it has been given a separate name.

Creative Mode
Creative Mode places players in a randomly generated world designed to be shaped freely. Flight is enabled, players are invulnerable, and resources are unlimited. The mode also includes a suite of powerful tools that go beyond standard building, such as brushes that can paint blocks, grassy paths, and even ruins, along with copy-and-paste functionality and customizable models.

Competitive Multiplayer
Competitive Multiplayer is Hytale’s dedicated minigame experience. Players enter The Capital, a city in the sky that acts as a central hub for socializing and queuing into competitive matches. Although specific minigames have yet to be revealed, the developers have confirmed plans for a dedicated team to support this mode. Competitive Multiplayer is not yet available.

All Hytale Editions

Hytale Early Access is available in three separate editions, each with their own perks and cosmetics. Additionally, higher tiers receive the cosmetics and perks of all previous tiers, which means Cursebreaker, the highest tier, grants everything. The developers have assured that all items gained through the two higher tiers are purely cosmetic and offer no in-game advantages over other players.

Hytale Early Access Dates

Pre-orders for all three editions of Hytale began on December 13, 2025, with the early access release coming one month after on January 13, 2026. While no end date has been provided, these editions are confirmed to be exclusive to early access and will no longer be available once the game officially launches. We expect all the cosmetics in these bundles to become exclusive legacy items at that time.
